In chapter three, Michael Rush points out an artist David Goldenberg video of projected images secluded space of audience members from surveillance cameras. Act of voyuerism is prominent in these type of video installations author states “surveillance, a type of spying, has interested artist and fascists alike since the birth of video technology” which is interesting take on intrusive content. Made to feel uncomfortable about the idea of always being watched similar to the Truman show starring Jim Carrey. Where lives in a made up world created by other people and continuously monitor him all through out his life. But with meddling involved.
In this last part of chapter 2 Michael Rush references video artist Anna Gaskell, “ Floater,” (1997) a single channel video projected onto the floor. She shows a young girls body flooring in water , views presume she is dead, the video zooms in on her “lifeless” open mouth (120) . But is she actually dead that is what Gaskell wants the audience to think. There could be happy ending for this video for optimism. But I’m not that person I do not want Hollywood happy ending, most of the small obstacles are resolved with a predictable ending—talking about every super hero movie ever made by Disney.
First and foremost this movie was awesome in my opinion the fights scenes in this all female lead were choreographed nicely. It flowed really well there was some comic relief style fighting within the movie. But one thing that stands out is the new title “Harley Quinn and birds of prey” vs “birds of prey and the fantabulous emancipation of one Harley Quinn” which in retro spec should have be done since the beginning. And main reason it was changed was for more people to buy tickets to see the movie. That kinda sucks because it is a good storyline it is mostly about Harley Quinn but has nice blend of characters Ewan McGregor villain was diabolical in the best way. Go see the movie. Like right now.
In this section, author states video artist Vito Acconci “psychological word games that probe the relationship of the viewer to the subject being watched” which I kinda gives me an unsettling vibes . And it is video I should not be watching by myself or with anyone really. The video shooting is major closeup scene that is rather intimate and talking rather soft gives me goose bumps. Not happy moment for me.
1962, Zen for head by Nam June Paik In chapter 2, Michael Rush mentions an artist, Nam June Paik used video media as an extension of his artistic practice (87). And one the works that stood out to me was “Zen for Head” in 1962. Slowly dragging himself across a sheet of paper while dipping his hands and head in a ink and tomato juice concoction (89). This performance was interpretation of an another artist La Monte Young score piece quoted“draw a straight line and follow it”. It seemed like would have been a very powerful experience.
"Why the F**k I'm Up" "for this projected I took a shit ton of photos for about 6 months now. And I did not know what I wanted to do with them. Anyway, I took slices of each photo that was taken at an ungodly hour. And rearranged them into a new view of my car window. And I will say I was not driving when I produced these photos. It pays off sometimes to be early. But I rather be sleeping."
