Super Bowl half time show

Super Bowl halftime show was one of the best halftime shows I got to see in my lifetime. Although top five are Prince because come on the rain when he was singing purple rain was too perfect. Second pick is Michael Jackson because the crowd was nuts and he is a one of kind performer. Third is lady Gaga she jumped from the roof and was sing all through her choreography which is difficult skill. Fourth right but might bump up to third is this years Shakira and J-lo. And fifth would be Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake aside from the wardrobe malfunction it was amazing back and fourth performance between the two artists. Now, back to Shakira and J-lo performance it was a proud moment for me has a LatinaX women to see inclusion on television. And especially important to see a strong women on dominated industry run by men. Shakira right from the start of the show to end showed off her skill level that she not only deserves to perform at the super bowl but in United States because she is a performer from her choreography, electric guitar and kickass drum playing and multi language speaker. She out did some of the best performers with exception of Prince and Michael Jackson. She is the one of top diverse artist in this generation. It’s unfortunate that some people do not welcome her with open arms or even on job well down. They are fixed on the fact that she is not an American artist. But they are right she not American artist she is much better than them.

Response to New Media In Art: Introduction: Pg7-18

In the book, New Media in Art,  by Michael Rush mentions artists in the last century are experimenting more with mix media (7).  Incorporating readymade objects, personal trinkets, and recyclable objects, focusing on the emotion rather than technical skills. Rush references a famous artist, Marcel Duchamp that changed the focus of what is a fine art. Duchamp for example famous piece controversial "fountain" sculpture was not considered art because it was ready-made that had no creat. However, it is an art because it was Duchamp protest towards the Art Galleries and Museums because who are they decide what is art. Art does not have definitive rules of what qualifies as art, there might be tasteful art and distasteful art (22). I think it should be up to the artist and audience to consider what is art, tasteful otherwise.

Michael Rush mentions exploring the lyrical other words combing the writing, poems, song, music, etc. turned into visual images, performances or installations(150).  At first to me seemed kinda boring the writing portion and poems because I am not very good at and it is confusing sometimes trying to understand authors writing or meaning behind the story if there is one. But the parts that interest me are turning visuals into poems. For example, Bill Viola's single-channel video installation described as "videos as visual poems " grappling with identity and spirituality.

In chapter 1, New Media in Art by Michael Rush mentions a performance of beating a guitar on themselves until it disintegrated. And this reminded me of David Blaine when he would perform his extreme isolation meditation. Like with the ice tomb, standing 100-foot high, 22-in wide pillar, submerged in water and buried alive. He did these while filming for a tv show pushing his limits of the audience reactions. Another trick that comes to mind is the ice pick through the hand or arm in front of people. There is this raw emotion of disgust with doubt because that it can't be real? Right?
