Response: New Media in Art: Ch1 52-64pgs

In this section of chapter 1 there is a French, multimedia-performance artist Orlan who literally went under the knife to discuss what is ideal body of women (59). She based her reconstructive surgery on chin of Botticelli’a Venus and the nose of Psyche, by Gèrard’s Le Premier Baiser de l’Amour à Psyche. Which made me think of Kardashians and there influence on young viewers. Although, Orlan is agrueing past beauty and using plastic surgery to recreate it. Similar to Kardashians specifically Kylie Jenner who got lip injections at young age. And don’t get me wrong I am all for body positivity if you really do not some parts of your body, by all means change if that makes you happy to extent. I draw the line for young 18 year old that want to change their bodies for the sake of fitting in to society because you are not beautiful. I think young women especially are targeted by music, fashion, tv, and reality that if they do not have big butt, big lips, skinny but not too skinny, or fit but not too fit.   Because women are not individuals that have unique characteristics that society says are beautiful. But one trip to plastic land and you are fixed.

DTC 355: Timelapse project

"Why the F**k I'm Up" "for this projected I took a shit ton of photos for about 6 months now. And I did not know what I wanted to do with them. Anyway, I took slices of each photo that was taken at an ungodly hour. And rearranged them into a new view of my car window. And I will say I was not driving when I produced these photos. It pays off sometimes to be early. But I rather be sleeping."

Easy Street Records & Cafe

This weekend I went to an awesome record store in Seattle called Easy Street Records. Man oh, oh man was I was in vinyl record heaven, at first glance the store had some records, merch, and cafe. And I was a little excited to fully know to expect, so I checked out a few bins seeing that it was a marked sale. And some rows wrapped around the upper level which was small but it had a whole lot of vinyl records. Words cannot explain the feeling in a record store and a great one for that matter. But what made this store worth the trip was the number of rare records that you cannot find at Best Buy, Barnes n Nobles, Wal-Mart or Adventure Land Comics store. This place is my top favorite record store aside from RIP "Off the Record" which unfortunately went out business.

In last part of chapter 1 Michael Rush cites an artist, Trisha Brown created one of the first dance performance media videos in 1966 (77). The video shows Brown dancing with a projector to her back showing images of her choreography as she real time performing in front of audience. I thought it was a interesting and cool idea. Curious to see if the projector was in the way of the live performance. Or that was intention or if she powered through. The weight of projector did not even phase her. She is total badass if she did not have any problems. I think she is badass either way.
